At Corporate Challenge Events, we believe in the transformative power of team building. Not just for the tangible benefits it brings to organisations in terms of productivity and camaraderie, but also for the profound impact it has on our communities through our charity partnerships.
We view our role as more than just event organisers. We are facilitators of connection – bridging the gap between our socially responsible clients and charities that are making a real difference – like HeartKids New Zealand.
HeartKids NZ is an organisation close to our hearts. They do incredible work and are the only national organisation in Aotearoa NZ dedicated to providing lifelong care and support for children, teens, adults and families impacted by childhood heart conditions. Through our popular programs, Bikes for Tykes and Lego Legends, we have been able to contribute to their cause in a unique and impactful way.
However, the true essence of these programs isn’t found in the events themselves, but in the stories of the children whose lives they touch. These stories are for our generous and valued clients from GNC Science and Beca.
Sharing the impact
Georgie
Heart kid Georgie (pictured above) had just returned home after two months in the hospital when she received her pile of Lego boxes. Her mother shared that Georgie spent the next few weeks shunning her iPad and instead building and perfecting her Zoo, saying,
“Your generosity is such a positive thing for a young girl who has had her world shrink a little with the restrictions this latest round has made.”
Sophia
Sophia, another recipient, radiates joy in a picture of her on her new bicycle, a gift facilitated by Corporate Challenge Events NZ and donated by BECA. Her mother Alli shares,
“Thank you to HeartKids Wellington for a lovely evening to receive Sophia’s bike. We appreciate all you do.”
Then there’s an 11-year-old boy who found comfort in Lego after suffering a stroke. His mother was moved to tears as she expressed how Lego is the one thing that settles her son down during his post-stroke outbursts.
Xavier and his Sisters
Xavier and his sisters have created wonderful Lego structures, and Xavier’s Māia bear, another gift from HeartKids NZ, is well-loved and accompanies him to bed every night.
Naomi
Naomi, an 11-year-old who recently started at a new school, found delight and a therapeutic outlet in her Lego set. She says,
“I wanted to say thank you so much to you, HeartKids NZ and GNS Science for all the Lego I was given at the special event we were invited to. Mum says Lego is so good for me because it helps with my fine motor skills, my concentration, and it keeps me busy for ages!”
We also received heart-warming feedback from Claudia, a mother whose 2-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Sophia, received a bike from BECA. Claudia shared how this gift made a significant impact on Sophia, who is quite non-verbal. After the event, Sophia turned to her mum and said,
“Mummy, I happy”
a huge communication milestone for her.
Tora
Another touching story comes from Tora, who wrote a thank you letter pictured above to GNS Science for the donation of Lego she received. The excitement was evident as she got home and immediately started assembling the pieces of Lego.
These stories are a testament to the profound impact of corporate giving. Companies like GNS Science and BECA, through their generous donations, provide more than toys; they offer opportunities for growth, learning, and most importantly, joy to these children. The ability to facilitate these powerful connections and make a positive change in the lives of these children and their families is what truly drives us.
